Luxury Wellness Retreat
Introduction
For this project I was asked by luxury hotel chain, Tranquil Escapes, to design a retreat based in the South Downs National Park in rural Hampshire.
The brief I followed for this project was to ensure that mental and physical health was considered in all design decisions as well as following a design direction based around the Japanese Zen philosophy of relaxation and wellness by designing a space that creates an escapism from day to day life.
The Reception Space
The reception space is the first space upon arrival to the retreat, therefore it needed to provide an inviting first impression of what the rest of the retreat has to offer. Using a neutral colour palette with natural materials and biophilic design I designed a space aiming to initiate calmness and tranquillity ready for the user's retreat experience.
The Restaurant
The restaurant is a space for the retreat’s clients to enjoy their pre-ordered nourishing meals or to grab snacks and drinks throughout the day.
I designed this space in a relaxing setting taking into consideration the restaurant's views of the gardens and the staff and customer spatial circulation.
The Rooftop Lounge
I found it important to design the building utilising the exterior space as much as possible to aid mental wellness and relaxation. This rooftop lounge is a space designated for clients to get a breath of fresh air surrounded by nature and beautiful views the site has to offer.
The Treatment Room
The treatment room is a space designed to embrace privacy and solitude for clients to receive their personalised spa treatments.
I designed this space practically with storage elements and a number of lighting options on different circuits to ensure staff and clients have a smooth, relaxing experience.
The Pool Room
The pool room is a space for sensory relaxation, designed using large windows displaying the surrounding views of the gardens and installing speakers and a water fountain to utilise additional senses to create a calming and tranquil setting for users.
